Dr. Jilleun Tenning PhD

Dr. Jilleun Tenning is a neurodivergent clinician, researcher, and mental-health leader with over 15 years of experience in trauma-informed care, neurodevelopmental assessment, and psychotherapy. She holds a PhD and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

As the founder and Clinical Director of InFocus, Dr. Tenning provides provincially accessible, neuroaffirming, and evidence-based services across British Columbia. She specializes in autism and ADHD assessments and support for individuals aged 13 and older, with a particular focus on those who have been overlooked, misdiagnosed, or masked their symptoms throughout their lives.

Dr. Tenning completed graduate training in the faculty of medicine with a strong emphasis on neurodevelopment, trauma, and identity. She has completed extensive specialized training in autism assessment, including certification in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2), the Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R), and the Autism Clinical Interview for Adults (ACIA). Her doctoral and post-doctoral research examine complex youth mental health through a decolonizing and trauma-informed lens, emphasizing the creation of culturally responsive and accessible diagnostic models.

Within her practice, Dr. Tenning has developed a specialized model of autism assessment for adolescents and adults, integrating in-depth clinical interviews, validated screening instruments, and collaborative psychiatric consultation to support diagnostic clarity, particularly in complex or multiply-marginalized presentations.

Her assessments are frequently used to support:
• Educational accommodations
• Employment and workplace advocacy
• Formal disability applications (e.g., DTC, PWD)

Areas of Clinical Expertise
• Autism Assessments (Adolescent and Adult, including AuDHD presentations)
• ADHD Diagnosis and Psychoeducation
• Rejection Sensitivity & Emotional Regulation
• Masking, Burnout & Identity Development
• Documentation for Academic, Workplace & Disability Supports

Dr. Tenning’s therapeutic approach blends CBT, ACT, DBT, and attachment-based frameworks within a radically compassionate, neurodivergent-affirming lens. Each treatment plan is personalized, strengths-based, and collaborative. At the heart of her work is a core belief in “difference, not disorder.” She recognizes that neurodivergent mental health cannot be separated from the social and cultural contexts in which it develops, and her work honours how trauma, systemic barriers, and masking shape well-being, especially for women, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and racialized or otherwise marginalized clients.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, self-discovered, or still exploring your neurodivergent identity, Dr. Tenning offers a safe and affirming space to ask questions, find clarity, and build practical strategies.

If traditional therapy hasn’t worked for you, or you’ve spent years feeling like something was “off” but couldn’t name it, Dr. Tenning’s approach offers a pathway toward curiosity, connection, and wholeness.
