ADHD Assessment

ADHD Diagnostic Clinic: Purpose and Process

The ADHD Diagnostic Clinic is a dedicated virtual assessment platform designed specifically for diagnosing ADHD. Our mission is to bridge the service gap for individuals who suspect they may be experiencing ADHD symptoms, ultimately enhancing their quality of life through effective treatment.

Our primary goal is to gather comprehensive information that will either support a diagnosis or provide a reasonable exclusion of ADHD. We focus on serving individuals aged 16 and older, making provision for adolescents who may not have received a diagnosis during their earlier school years, as they approach critical academic milestones.

Services covered by the BC Medical Services Plan require referrals by medical practitioners or nurse practitioners and must originate from a recognizable primary care provider facility. Primary care providers can access the referral form on our website. It is crucial to include comprehensive and complete details about the client’s demographics and the referring provider. ADHD assessments required for medically necessary purposes are covered by the BC Medical Services Plan.

Clients who are not insured under the BC Medical Services Plan, or who require services not covered by MSP, do not require a referral, and can contact the clinic for more information and the fee schedule for uninsured services.

Upon receiving a referral, clients will be connected with a clinician at InFocus Counselling, who will guide them through the process of collecting essential information prior to scheduling their appointment with a psychiatrist. We prioritize timely access, ensuring that appointments are scheduled at the earliest opportunity. Clients will receive prompt reminders about their appointments.

During the ADHD assessment session with the psychiatrist, they will delve into symptoms and challenges, allowing for a thorough discussion of assessment findings, diagnostic clarification, treatment recommendations and next steps.

After the assessment, a detailed confidential consultation report will be forwarded to the primary care provider or the party requesting the assessment.

Clients that are diagnosed with ADHD are encouraged to consult with their primary care provider for pharmacological treatment options and additional management strategies. They may also be referred for psychosocial/psychodynamic treatment. This is available through InFocus Counselling. Dr. Kotze will play an ongoing role in supporting primary care providers and other clinicians involved in the client's ongoing care to optimize outcomes.

Please note that while other mental health or physical disorders may be identified during consultations, clients should not expect a comprehensive evaluation of all potential psychiatric conditions.

SERVICES NOT COVERED BY THE MEDICAL SERVICES PLAN

The Medical Services Plan of BC provides coverage for medically required services. Services that are not covered include medical examinations for schools, insurance or employment purposes and financial benefits such as Disability Tax Credits. If you require these services or are not insured by the BC Medical Services Plan, you are welcome to book an appointment directly with the clinic. No referral is required. Clients will receive the same diagnostic evaluation and treatment recommendations as those whose assessment is covered by MSP, and will have access to their consultation report. We will provide the necessary supporting documentation and paperwork based on the consultation for school, insurance or employment purposes. Should you be interested in these uninsured services, please contact our office for additional information.
